I am the president of my senior class at Presentation Academy, social media chairperson at Louisville Girls Leadership, and a member of the Chums mentoring program. Participating in these activities may be who I am in my community, but to my friends, family, and you, I am a 17 year old girl trying to take her passions and make them a reality. I am independent, yet dependent on so many things, I’m passionate and radical at the same time. I am an activist, I am goofy, I am childish and artistic. I am Alexis Cammack. My life passions are social justice, community service, writing, and family. My project uses my passions and focuses on the injustices of today’s society to write poems based off the emotional trauma people go through because of those injustices. I’m working with several mentors to make this project happen. By the end of year I want to be able to hold my book in my hand and say “I wrote this, this is mine.” I plan to gain not only the experience of writing a book from this project but also gain more understanding to what is happening within our society as I'm writing poems trying to inform people of the injustices that happen today. I want people to read my book and decide that because of this, they want to change the world.
