"Who am I?" Sounds like a broad and difficult question to answer. I am caring, empathetic, open-minded, hard-working, etc. I am an International Student at Presentation Academy. I am part of the soccer team, I tutor at school, I am a peer leader, I was a CrossRoads Ministry ambassador and I am committed to service. Yet, I am determined to become a better version of myself. I am hopeful that I will be part of something that makes a change and helps others. I strive to be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people.
I am passionate about equality and people's rights. For this reason, my SIP project focuses on one of the most controversial debates among the nation: immigration. Today, more that 40 million people living in the United States were born in a foreign country, me included. I am Mexican and I arrived in this country around a year ago, and since then, this topic has become a major part of my life. I came to the United States because I’ve always know that I could find broader opportunities to build a better future. For this reason, I empathize with immigrants facing hardships while trying to attain the American Dream.
My project will consist of building a structured plan for Pres to implement as part of its yearly activities. I want to encourage Pres girls to take action and for them to realize that they have the power to touch the lives of many so that they can understand that it is possible for them to be the change factor. I attempt to develop several activities where Pres gets to interact with the immigrant and refugee community, allowing us to obtain an insight on the lives of them. Also, I want to have an informative section on my project. I want to develop a way in which the school will be informed with the latest news about immigration policies the government states. I wish that as a final product I have a more concerned community willing to take action and a program to be used for the school to keep helping in the future.
