My name is Kate Wood, and I've had a passion for LEGOs for as long as I can remember. I'd build LEGO elevators and skyscrapers in After School Care in grade school, have visited the LEGO store in Chicago, and have built the biggest sets LEGO has to offer, including the Taj Mahal, Hogwarts, and the Tower Bridge in London, England. My bedroom is decked out in LEGO landmarks of the world, and my collection keeps growing. Outside of my LEGO addiction, I’ve played volleyball for ten years, love math and puzzles, travel around the world with my family, and Kayak whenever I can.
For my Senior Independent Project, I plan to design a prototype LEGO set of Churchill Downs, displaying my love of LEGOs and Louisville. To help guide me during the SIP process, I hope to work with Churchill Downs, LEGO, and Luckett & Farley as mentors and will be using BrickLink to virtually build the set. If time allows, I also hope to add to my finished product a manual to build the set and a synopsis of Churchill Downs and its impact in horse racing, Louisville, the U.S., and in the world.
